Holiday Parks have been going for years; originally designed to provide affordable holidays for ordinary British families and made famous by Butlins and their red coat entertainment. Now that market has grown to hundreds of companies in the UK and around the world trying to replicate that success, and one in particular, Haven, does it very well. We recently spent the weekend away at the Haven in Prestatyn (imaginatively called Presthaven) and here’s why it’s more than a little bit boss.
When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by the static caravan we had to call ours for the next few days. It was a luxury model, not a brand new one, but still in perfect condition despite the hundreds of families who’ve probably stayed there before. Presthaven clearly take maintenance and upkeep seriously. A living room, kitchen/diner, bathroom and three bedrooms (one with an ensuite) mean this is more like an apartment on wheels than a caravan and certainly more roomy than any hotel room.
One of the main things you need to know is, this site was designed for families with kids; there’s hundreds of them! You can see why when you realise how much there is for them to do. Endless amounts of activities, play areas, places to go, things to do such as an indoor and outdoor pool with water slides and a lazy river, climbing wall and aerial adventure course, kids club, crazy golf, and an arcade, just to name a few, and that’s just on the site. In the surrounding area there’s beautiful country parks, beaches, seaside resorts, a mountain zoo, the oldest lighthouse in Wales, castles, and gorgeous villages to explore – it even lists Liverpool as one if it’s recommended days out 💅 because yet another thing that’s boss about Presthaven is that it’s just an hour away from Liverpool. If you get an early dart on a Friday you can be there knocking back a glass of prosecco while your workmates are still photocopying things they don’t need to photocopy and doing ‘Friday work’ i.e. clock watching til 5pm.
Adults and couples shouldn’t be put off by the family focus, there are quite a few things here for you too. Mainly the onsite restaurant and bar, where they have a plethora of screens and a pull down projector to show the match, so your fella can’t moan that he’s missing the match and you don’t have to miss Klopp the absolute DILF with his hilarious post match burns. Within the site, as well as the bar and the arcade, there’s a Spar, Burger King and even a Papa Johns that delivers to your caravan – and if that reason alone isn’t enough for you then this review ain’t for you honey.
Lets just say it how it is, this is not a 5 star, all inc. kind of two week holiday abroad. It’s been there for years and I’m sure if you looked hard enough you’d find some bits that maybe need a lick of paint, but for what it is – a holiday park in North Wales only an hour away from Liverpool – it’s great. Especially for the tired mas and das who can’t be arsed having to entertain their hyper kids during half term – there’s so much to do, they can just sit back and have a prosecco or a beer and just hope they can convince the kids to get back to the van before bedtime…
Presthaven closes for the year on the 31st October (sad face) but we’ll be back next year… for more info and to book, visit their website.
