Scouse Bird Problems – Time to cook? Bitch please I don’t have time to shop!

How bleak my fridge looks

As my workload has increased dramatically over the last 6 to 8 months I’ve found I have less and less time to cook (and tidy up, and shop, and watch TV and breathe and generally have a minute to myself) and as a consequence I’ve been eating dead quick and easy food which invariably turn out to be carb related; noodles, toast, pizza etc. I thought that when I went self-employed I’d actually have more time to myself but that was just a pipe dream and in fact I have less time than ever – although I love every minute so you won’t hear me complaining about working 16hr+ days.

So back to my diet anyway….it’s been shocking and my personal trainer (Craig) has been absolutely FEWWWWMIN with me so I knew it was time to think outside the box. I’d seen something advertised on telly about getting prepared meals delivered and decided to google whether or not there was a low carb version (Ever since reading “Big Fat Lies – Is The Government Making You Fat?” a few years ago I’ve made an enemy of carbs…..a delicious, tempting enemy). I found the Natural Ketosis Company (Ketosis is your body’s fat burning mode. Basically when you cut out carbs, which is the body’s easiest way to get energy, you start burning off your fat stores. No carbs = No insulin = No Fat Storage. The book explains it well better anyway).

I was worried it would be dead expensive but the packages start at £67.50 a week to have all your meals and snack delivered which isn’t much more than what I spend on food anyway and probably much less when you factor in the ‘can’t be arsed cooking’ takeaways.

The food was nice. It takes a while for your body to kick the sugar craving as you won’t be eating ANY sugar at all and that means the first week or two you’re climbing the walls like a sugar junkie on cold turkey…but after that it’s sound. I’m not going to lie, the food doesn’t LOOK great, all the meals seemed to be a bit dark looking, because there’s no crap in them I suppose, but don’t let the look of them put you off because they do taste good. The brocolli & stilton soup and the chicken & shallot were probably my personal faves. I lost 5lbs in the first two weeks (I was training at the gym as well so will have put muscle on so in reality it was more. Either way my clothes fit better). It deffo made sticking to the diet easier but once I had to travel to London and Paris my diet went to shit again….it advises you not to drink for a start but let’s face it, you can’t go on holiday and not sample the local food can you? The diet does come with tips on how to eat out though so you don’t HAVE to exclude holidays and things if you’re really dedicated – I’m totally rubbish though.
