Confessions of a Learner Parent is a book you need in your life.
It’s not often I do book reviews, mainly because it’s not often that I actually get to sit down and read a book, unless I’m on holiday. Even then, always seems to time her new releases with my holidays quite nicely, and if it’s not a story based in the 15th or 16th century then I don’t want to know.
This is different though. I was very kindly sent a copy of Sam Avery’s new book, Confessions of a Leaner Parent and it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever read… not in a while or anything, I mean EVER. I’ve known of Sam for years on the Liverpool comedy circuit (he does stand up and organises the comedy festival) and a couple of years ago he became a parent and started a very funny blog and podcast.
I don’t know if it’s just because I’m now a parent that I found his book so funny but I honestly believe that it would have anyone belly laughing. From his stories of being covered in shit (there’s a lot of them) to him trying to see the world through his twin toddlers’ eyes, it’s laugh a minute.
At one point I actually had to put the book down and come back to it later on when I’d calmed down, I was in actual tears and had a full on fit of the giggles that I just couldn’t control for long enough to read another line. My husband is fuming and refusing to read it now because I laughed so hard, “Why don’t you just go and marry Sam instead?”
Well mate, if he didn’t have a wife (Rachel, who also sounds as sassy and dry witted AF 💅), I’d certainly consider it.
Find Sam’s book, ‘‘ on Amazon and support some local talent – you shan’t regret it, you simply shan’t.
And if you want to know what labour is really like – ama tell you here.
